The Sacredness of the Menstrual Cycle

Learning to structure my life and work around my monthly internal cycle and the Earth's lunar cycle has changed my entire relationship to the natural world and my own body.

As women, we experience 4 "seasons" reflective of the 4 seasons many areas of the world go through in a year. Of course, men do not have this monthly cycle of release and reset, but by attuning themselves to the moon phases, they can achieve a similar balance!

Each month, I commit to set aside 4-5 days for my moon time where I disconnect from my phone, prioritize rest and self care, often work with plants such as Rose and Cacao, and nurture myself in any way my body, nervous system, and inner child ask for.

This period of rest and energetic reset leaves me feeling deeply rejuvenated and inspired to share with upcoming clients.

Many of us have a difficult time doing "nothing" for an extended period, and when I began this practice of dedicating space to bleed my mind became very busy and fixated on the productive things I "should" be doing.

The truth is, menstruation is both biologically and energetically geared toward internal focus, for women it is our inner season of winter. Animals naturally hibernate during physical winter and are inactive. This is a time for women to connect with their womb, their body, their intuition, and to release and restore.

A time to go deeply within, commune with the inherent creative and transformative power of your womb and blood, and to tune in to what the next month holds--what wants to birth through you.

Moontime has become my favorite time of the month and a source of profoundly connected guidance for my life, inspiration for my work, and mental/energetic clarity.

The 5 days off from serving others and fulfilling the responsibilities and obligations of my daily life fills my cup overflowing so that I can transition back into holding space with truly open heart and an abundance of love and energy to share with my community and clients.

In my days of working in nursing homes, I would be lifting elderly patients and doing difficult physical and emotional labor during moontime, and I honestly feel this was one of the major contributing factors to my chronic fatigue at the time. I can't stress the level of productivity and high energy that follows the rest of my cycle when I give my body this space!

There is alot of societal shame conditioned in many of us surrounding moontime that create a sense of humiliation or feeling "dirty", needing to hide it, feeling uncomfortable talking about it, etc, but reclaiming this part of my womanhood has been on the of the most deeply empowering steps I have taken on my journey.

I integrate cyclical living into my 7 week program "Re-Awakening Elemental Wisdom", an online container and community for women to get back in touch with their internal cycle, earthly moon phases, and learn to harness the power of the 4 elements, as well as your blood through ritual and ceremony. Several have asked about this program and I am in the process of forming a group sometime this year. Feel free to contact me for details!
